DIVA's Youth Visions Teen Video Challenge
Saturday April 14th

Each year Lane County teens ages 13-19 submit videos that are reviewed by a panel of video professionals and educators. Those videos that demonstrate the most creative, effective and skillful responses to the call for entries are awarded prizes at the annual Youth Visions Teen Video Challenge festival held at the BIJOU Theater in Eugene.

This year the Jury selected two First Place Awards in addition to a third place and audience choice award. Steve Newcomb, DIVA's OpenLens Festival Committee Chair, presented awards to this year's winners.

Jordyn Roach
First Place Award: $200

Jordyn Roach. The Jovial Giraffes, is a claymation film in which inanimate objects spring to life from a young boy's sketch pad.

Jordyn attends South Eugene High School.

Jordyn also won the $50 Audience Choice Award.

Adrian Tujillo
First Place Award: $200

Adrian Trujillo. The Trumpet Player is the story about a young street musician who has a very special talent as a trumpet player.

Adrian attends the Academy of Arts and Academics in Springfield.

Samantha Stendal
Third Place Award: $100

Samantha Stendal. In Diseased, an alarm rings and the race for survival begins. Ryan will have to run with the diseased at his heels.

Samantha is a University of Oregon Cinema Studies major.

  • Theater Commercial (Rhodec Erickson) A promo for perspective Academy of Arts & Academics students.

  • Not So Epic Battle (Eli Lay and Gary Cleverly) Cyclops and the Grim Reaper meet in the streets of a big city.  What happens next will surprise you.

  • A Very Matrix Holiday (Ryan O' Toole) A Matrix parody, with Santa Claus Cameo.

  • The Last Croak (Casey Willits and Erin Hammond) Obnoxious frogs won't shut up!

  • Don't be a Bully (Allison Reilly) Bullying, and how young victims feel.

  • The Ding-Dong Ditcher and the Insane Grandma Who Doesn't Listen (Kaylie Parr and Lauren Coady) Silly girl who ding-dongs and ditches a hard-of-hearing old lady and granddaughter.

  • Pacwitch  (Jacob Sowanick and Tessa Baune) A horrible monster is created from a witch's brew and chews its way through everything in its path. No one is spared!

  • Driver's Ed Video (Austin Hodgin, Andrea Coffee, and Jonathan Lymath) A video that demonstrates what we learned in class.

  • The King of the Books  (Derek Gray) A man's book collection is destroyed by the horror of Stephen King.

  • Chapel of Praise (Josh Aden) A slide-show video of my church’s chapel of praise.

  • The Deal  (Hunter Ruland) A banker and his assistant make a deal with a hit man and his boss.

  • AAA Inquiries (Adrian Trujillo) A promo made for the Inquiries program at the Academy of Arts & Academics.
